Does your dog jump on you and your guests? Pull you around the neighborhood on her leash? Bark at everything? Not know basic commands? Show signs of aggression toward other dogs or humans? Lack impulse control?

These are all things that my training programs can help you handle. Whether it’s the simplest issue to fix or something much more complicated, I will work with you to develop a program that suits your needs. All sessions are conducted in private one-on-one sessions in your home or, depending on weather, we can meet at a local green space.

Pet Dog Ambassador Program: Help Your Dog Earn a Title for His Good Manners

Similar to the AKC’s Canine Good Citizen title and awards earned at other dog competitions, the Pet Dog Ambassador (PDA) is a program for dog guardians to test their knowledge, skills and ability to manage their canine companion in real life settings. With five different levels, your puppy can enter the program at PDA1 or your adult dog can enter at PDA2 and earn a certificate and title for each stage through the last of PDA5 Champion. Or you can stop at any stage you want. Each builds on the last with added difficulty. The program’s aim is to acknowledge the hard work and commitment that guardians and their dogs undertake to make their shared lives enjoyable and recognizes these efforts from a puppy’s very early training. The program aims to encourage guardians to continue training and developing new skills, abilities and knowledge.

As an instructor and assessor for the PDA program, I’m offering a 6-session private lesson package for PDA1 and PDA2 for $400, which includes the final assessment so your dog can earn his first title. If you decide to keep pursuing the titles, we will continue to have weekly sessions for $65 each until your pup is ready for the next assessment.

Please text me at 302-690-2652 to find out how you can get started in the PDA program.

Private, In-Home Session Programs:

  • Behavior Modification & Basic Obedience: Does your pup jump on everyone, drag you down the street on leash, bark non-stop, nip or mouth your hands every time you try to pet him, these are just some of the behavior issues we can tackle in training. In addition, you’re dog will learn the basic commands, such as sit down, drop it, leave it, and more. All relevant handouts are included in addition to lifetime email/text support. We’ll be able to get your dog under control so you can enjoy having the perfect family companion. $65 per session (It typically takes 5 sessions for an adult dog to learn all the basic commands and new behaviors. Your training needs determine how many sessions will be needed).
  • Day-Training In-Home Program: So much cheaper than a board and train! You get daily training for your dog but none of the overnight boarding fees. The program includes 10 consecutive sessions (M-F) with your pup in your home then one transfer session with you and your pup so you can learn how to maintain your dog’s new training. Day-training for basic obedience commands includes sit, sit-stay, down, down-stay, come, leash manners, leave it, touch, and place. The second week builds on week one and adds distance, duration, and distraction to further proof the basic commands. In 10 sessions with one transfer session, your pup will be able to sit in place for a long duration, come when called while blocking out tempting distractions, and much more. We’ll take a few outings to Home Depot and local green spaces to let your pup practice his new behaviors with the added distractions. The package includes all equipment, relevant handouts, and lifetime email/text support. $900 for two weeks

Contact me today so we can set up a meeting to determine which program is the best fit for you and your dog. Text me at 302-690-2652.

All packages are paid for in full at the first session by cash, check, or credit card.

Depending on your unique needs, your training plan may include more or less sessions. For complicated cases that include aggression or reactivity, I may require an initial 20-minute consultation with you and your dog. The fee for this consultation is free. After the consultation, we can move forward with a program.

Here’s what others are saying about training with Sweet Paw Dog Training.

“Heather is very competent. My very large dog was an obnoxious jumper and had to be locked up every time anyone came into the house. She almost knocked some of my friends to the floor with her jumping!! Now I am able to control her and she no longer jumps up on people. Finally I have a dog with good manners! Heather stressed how important it was for me to be motivated to participate in the training of my dog, so I did my homework faithfully in between sessions, and was incredibly consistent, which really paid off. Heather is an excellent trainer and if you’re really ready to work along with her you’ll have a well mannered and happy dog.”

“Thank you so much for teaching me to calm the beast!! You will be the first person I call if I need more help!! You are a wonderful person.”

“Heather was a huge help with my two dogs, Cora and Becca. I like her positive approach. She helped us with leash reactivity and excessive barking. She taught me how to walk each dog separately and then together. In only 4-5 sessions my dogs made significant improvement. Her suggestions to alleviate barking were very effective as well. Heather takes the time to understand the situation and was patient with us. I am very pleased with my dogs’ progress and would not hesitate in recommending her!” Jessica K

Heather got our puppy off to a great start. She helped us set up for the new addition and taught us about the importance of handling and socialization. We worked on obedience when our puppy arrived and now have a really well-behaved juvenile.
